With the Government’s announcement on the closure of all entertainment outlets in Singapore from 26th March to 30th April, family KTV chain Teo Heng will have to close all 14 of its outlets island-wide.
In an emergency meeting held by the company’s founder Mr Jackson Teo (61-years-old) on Wednesday morning, it was revealed that the closure will result in estimated monthly losses of over $500,000.
However, as a form of encouragement in face of the COVID-19 crisis, Mr Teo have decided to continue paying salaries to his staff.
For the next one month, staff from Teo Heng KTV will continue to receive their salaries, but will do cleaning work instead. Mr Teo has also called on the Government to provide training opportunities for his staff during this period.
It is heartening to see employers like Mr Jackson Teo who are willing to support their employees at a difficult time like this. It will certainly be a very useful initiative if the Government could provide training opportunities not just for the staff of Teo Heng KTV, but also for those who have lost their jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
