Jolovan Wham Worries About Domestic Workers Staying Home During Off Days, and Harsh Penalties for Foreign Workers Who Gather in Large Numbers

Singaporean activist Jolovan Wham recently made a Facebook post about foreign domestic workers worrying about having to work on their off days when they stay at home during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Why is Jolovan Wham concerned about foreign domestic workers having to stay home during their off days when many Singaporeans are going to lose their jobs?

The foreign domestic workers might very well lose their jobs if their employers loses theirs. The focus should be on helping the employers retain their jobs and livelihoods.

In addition, Jolovan Wham also made another Facebook post about the Government implementing harsh penalties of revoking work passes of foreign workers who gather in large groups.

The very purpose of implementing such harsh penalties is to avoid community spread of the virus. This concerns the safety of both foreign workers and Singaporeans alike.

The key to containing COVID-19 virus infections in a densely populated country like Singapore is through social distancing. This is the same rule which will apply to everyone, not just foreign workers.
