Amos Yee’s Grandfather: “After Three Years of Having No Contact, I Only Know He Got into Trouble this Morning”

Singaporean Blogger Amos Yee is once again in the news, this time for being charged in US court for possessing and soliciting child pornography.

Due to the seriousness of the charge, Amos Yee stands to lose his asylum status if he is found guilty of the offence.

To recap, Amos Yee visited the United States on a tourist visa in Dec 2016, but later told US immigration officials that he was seeking political refuge. He was later granted asylum status in March 2017, and has been living in the United States ever since.

Speaking to reporters, Amos Yee’s 80-year-old grandfather said that Amos stopped contacting him after he left for the United States three years ago. He said that he only found out that Amos Yee was in trouble this morning (18th Oct) after reading the news online.

The concerned grandfather said that he was sad and disappointed that Amos Yee did not reply to his messages for the last three years. However, he added that it is okay if Amos Yee is sent back to Singapore, as he wants to see him again.
