Newly Renovated Marine Parade Central Market and Food Centre Flooded During Heavy Rain, Patrons Continue Eating Despite Flood

Yesterday (30th Nov), a flash flood caught the patrons and hawkers of the newly renovated Marine Parade Central Market and Food Centre by surprise.

This incident happened at around 1pm, when there were still several customers having their meals.

According to the owner of a drinks stall, Mr Tan (53-years-old), it was raining very heavily that day when the rain water suddenly flowed in from the car park, flooding the food centre with ankle deep water.

As the patrons were unable to leave due to the heavy rain, many decided to continue eating their meals in the flood.

Mr Tan added that ever since renovation works were completed last year, the car park of the market and food centre would be flooded during heavy downpours. However, he says that yesterday was the first time that the food centre was flooded, and hopes that the authorities will look into this matter as soon as possible.
