During a torrential downpour, a family of nine otters was seen invading the wet tarmac of Changi Airport. The otters have claimed territory all across Singapore and this is the first sighting of them within the vicinity of the busy airport.

The otters who have made Singapore their permanent home usually stick to the areas beside waterways and this invasion of a urban environment is an anomaly.

Despite their cuteness, it remains to be seen if the otter’s presence at Changi would lead to any inconvenience for airport operations. Changi Airport has a comprehensive suite of measures to prevent bird strikes but the otters appearance may lead to introduction of new measures to deter their uninvited visits.
