At around 9am on Wednesday (18th March), a 19-year-old teenager pretending to be a customer requested to view a gold chain costing over $13,000 at a Maxi-Cash outlet located at Ang Mo Kio. While still holding the gold chain in his hands, the teenager suddenly turned and fled.

As the incident happened too suddenly, the staff at the Maxi-cash outlet were unable to react in time to stop the teenager, and could only make a police report.

From police investigations, it was gathered that the teenager sold the gold chain at a nearby pawn shop shortly after fleeing from the Maxi-Cash outlet. With the help of PolCam footage, the police were able to arrest the teenager in under three hours.

The 19-year-old teenager will be charged in court today (20th March) for theft, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 7 years and a fine.
