Vestene Wong is a Malaysian national who is currently staying in a rental property in Singapore with three housemates.
On 6th Mar (Sunday), Vestene was preparing her breakfast at 5am, before going for a morning hike with her friends, when a housemate who was living in the ground floor right next to the kitchen, dashed out of her room, and slapped Vestene on her face and scolded her with vulgarities. The entire incident was captured on video by the landlord’s CCTV.
The housemate accused Vestene of waking her up, and demanded that she bring the stove to her room to cook. As there was not curfew imposed on the kitchen which was a common area, Vestene found it odd that her housemate had made such ridiculous demands.
After Vestene told her housemate that she was going to make a police report, her housemate said that she could easily get away with it by engaging a lawyer and sue her for causing her to have anxiety.
After reporting her housemate to the police at the station, Vestene’s housemate turned up at the station with an unlabeled bottle of pills, claiming it was anxiety medication. After the police sergeant asked if she had a card to validate her claims of mental illness, the housemate claimed that it was a mild anxiety, and she has no card to verify.
The police sergeant later demanded that she apologise to Vestene, which she did, but not before claiming that Vestene deserved the slap because she was being inconsiderate to wake her up.
