Recently, taxi and private hire drivers from a taxi drivers facebook group shared evidence accusing Grab of employing high handed tactics to force drivers into taking up jobs which were unreasonable. They shared that Grab would often offer jobs that were far from their location and the fares collected were too little to make it worth their while.

When drivers ignored such jobs offered by Grab, they would be penalised through the Acceptance Rate (AR) metric and if they were to fall below a 15% AR, they would be penalised with a heavier 20% levy on the fares they collect. Drivers claimed they had feedback such unfair practices to Grab’s customer service but were paid lip service. Nothing has changed despite the numerous feedback.

It would seem that the days of using high incentives to encourage more drivers adoption of Grab has ended. Grab appears to be turning off the tap to easily attainable incentives which attracted hordes of drivers to their platform in the first place.

Drivers are getting frustrated with the drying supply of good Grab pickup jobs and ever increasing difficulty in qualifying for incentives which supplements their income greatly. Some have even abandoned the Grab platform altogether and urged other drivers to do the same.

With Comfort Delgro’s recent acquisition of Uber Singapore, Grab seems to be facing an even greater uphill battle to maintain their market share of Singapore’s private car transport market.
