Blogger Leong Sze Hian has offended someone again. He has been involved in an online spat with the Singapore Land Authority after refusing to rectify his property for encroaching State Land.

Leong had claimed that the SLA was being unreasonable as he thought he had encroached the land by a mere 1.3cm to 4.9cm. As a result, he complained about it on Facebook and did not comply.

The SLA then explained that they had already provided him with a diagram which would have sufficiently indicated the encroached area as 13cm and 49cm – not 1.3cm to 4.9cm which Leong had previously claimed.

To this, Leong defended that their diagram was not clear as it did not show any measurement scales.

Whoever is behind the SLA’s Facebook page was clearly annoyed at this juncture. It responded that Leong had added deliberate untruths and half truths to his story. It lectured him for failing to understand something so basic and not wanting to cooperate with the authorities.

Since Feb 2018, for a period of 18 months, you have been asked to rectify this encroachment. You have refused to do so.

Your neighbours have also similarly encroached on State Land. Several have been contacted, and have been co-operative, and have taken steps/are taking steps to move their fences back, unlike you.”

The SLA criticised Leong for thinking that he is “entitled” and needs “special treatment”. While it respects everybody’s property, it has a duty to safeguard all State Land and make sure that people keep within their legal premises.

Too bad, he should have thought twice before making his argument public. It is childish for both sides and he will never win.
