Organic Salon at Boon Lay Shopping Centre Cheats Foreign Worker into Paying $1,450 for Haircut and Hair Treatment

Tiew a foreign worker saw a banner on Organic Salon’s glass door as he walked past, which promoted haircuts at only $2.

Attracted by the promotional price, Tiew decided to have his haircut and hair treatment at the salon. Tiew had purportedly wanted only a haircut, styling, and colouring, which was estimated to add up to around $129. Tiew was also told he could have a scalp treatment for another $99, which he agreed to pay for.

However, Tiew did not check the receipt after making payment at the hair salon, and headed back to work. Shortly after arriving at work, Tiew got a nasty shock, when he received a SMS from OCBC bank informing him that he had been charged a total of $1450 for the hair services, instead of just the $228 agreed.

When Tiew confronted the staff at the Organic Salon, the staff defended themselves by saying that the money charged was for future appointments, and claimed that Tiew had agreed to sign up for a $1450 package.

After trying to reason with the hair salon, Tiew was returned $725 “out of goodwill”, and that the remainder of the money was for services rendered earlier.

Tiew realised that he had been cheated by the hair salon, as he recalled the staff behaving suspiciously, covering the NETS machine screen as he was making payment.

Tiew later made a police report.

In fact, this was not the first time that Organic Salon had cheated its customers this way. In Sep 2020, a lady was charged $1999 without her knowledge for what was supposed to be a $3 haircut and a $29 hair treatment.
