The Official Identity Crisis

I respect our Singapore’s Indian Muslims a lot because they are hard working people and a large proportion of them went into business, small, medium and big, to make their own living.

They have strong entrepreneurship basically due to the fact that they realize they are the “minority of the minority” here; a unique group of people being racially “Indian” but religiously “Islam” instead of Hinduism. They know that racism exists in daily life, no matter how rosy picture politicians tend to make out to be. They accepted such reality as a fact of life but work hard so that they will not be looked down upon nor need to be “beholden” to anyone else.

They may face subtle racial discrimination from many fronts and sometimes, they will tell me that the PRCs from China doesn’t discriminate against them as much as their local compatriots, Singaporeans!

It would be sad to see our political leaders of Indian-Muslim origin to suffer such massive identity crisis which does no justice to their own community. Well I guess, in politics, everything goes, just for the sake of politicking.
