A 30-year old woman faces 8 charges for being a public nuisance while drunk. Her charges include causing nuisance in public while being intoxicated, violating the harassment act, and intentionally injuring others.

The woman’s hearing had been postponed since 19th Dec last year. She was released on bail after pleading guilty to her offences. While on bail, she stole alcohol from supermarkets twice, and now faces a total of 10 charges, including two additional charges for theft.

She had intended to plead guilty before the judge yesterday, but turned up in the courtroom in a drunken stupor. The woman was accompanied by four other relatives and friends.

When it came to her turn to stand before the judge, she stumbled into the stand, barely being able to stand on her own. Her defense lawyer had requested that the judge postpone her hearing, as she was too drunk and not in a right state of mind to be in court.

When the judge asked the woman if she had been drinking, she replied “no, I’m not drunk”. During the hearing, she struggled to speak before the judge and could be seen trying hard to stay awake. Moments after the hearing started, the woman passed out on the floor of the accused stand. She regained consciousness shortly after and took her seat at the accused stand.

According to the woman’s 66-year old father, his daughter had been drinking as she had been feeling depressed. The father said that on one occasion, she was so drunk that she fell and injured her head, which required four stitches. On one occasion, the woman’s father was so concerned for her, that he tried to stop her from leaving home, but ended up getting his face scratched by his daughter.
